Sanctuary’s sustainability and climate change lead joins UKREiiF line-up

At the inaugural UKREiiF event in Leeds between 17-19 May 2022, Sanctuary’s Donna Williams will join a discussion focused on the residential green retrofit agenda.

Sanctuary, one of the UK’s largest housing associations and landlord to more than 105,000 properties, will be represented at UKREiiF by Donna Williams, Group Director of Sustainability and Climate Change.

Joining a panel on the Industry Insights Stage, Williams will discuss the green retrofit agenda in the residential sector, where speakers will explore obstacles, viability and challenges facing its delivery. Joining Williams on stage will be Lord Martin Callanan, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, alongside two yet to be confirmed speakers.

Williams said: “Sustainability isn’t just about improving environmental performance, it’s about creating homes that are affordable to heat, in communities where people want to live. With five million homes to upgrade by 2050, and 15 per cent of social housing residents still living in fuel poverty, the housing sector is facing an enormous energy efficiency challenge.

“We must do our best for the planet, but also for our residents and communities, and I’m delighted to spread this message at UKREiiF in front of industry leaders and influencers.”

Keith Griffiths, Chief Executive Officer of UKREiiF, said: “Having set out plans to become a net zero carbon organisation by 2050, we know Sanctuary aren’t just talking about sustainability and climate change – but they’re taking action.

“Not content with reducing their own environmental impact, they’re also part of industry leading collaborations such as the Greener Future Partnership (GFP) where they’re working with Abri, Anchor, Home Group and Hyde Group to share expertise and knowledge on reducing emissions to create more sustainable and healthier homes for their customers. We’re therefore delighted to have their input and involvement into this crucial topic on our Industry Insights Stage.”

Led by property events company Built Environment Networking and supported by some of the biggest UK property and infrastructure companies, the first annual UKREiiF event will be held in Leeds on 17-19 May 2022. The forum will attract inward investment, generate economic growth and drive a more sustainable and inclusive culture within the property and construction industries.
