Now to get stuck into the opportunities here for you. With the £300m Blackpool Central Masterplan only just being signed of earlier in 2021, there’s a steady rumble of noise surrounding what this could mean long-term for the town and borough in general. Blackpool and the surrounding areas might not seem like the obvious choice in terms of investment and development, with the population being rather modest and its history being somewhat overshadowed by ‘Pleasure Beach’, but that’s exactly why it’s one to watch. This borough has been screaming for development, and developers have listened.
This masterplan forecasts an additional £75m will be added annually to the local economy with 1,000 new jobs for those wanting to work in and near the area. In terms of the attraction itself, its predicted to attract an additional 600,000 people per year. For these reasons, Lynn Williams, Leader of Blackpool Council described the development as ‘vitally important’ in boosting the town’s tourism and economy.
But the council aren’t the only ones excited to see the new enhancements. So are the locals. Especially because that huge project isn’t the only one they have to look forward to! Wesham have also revealed plans for a new stand and indoor training dome for AFC Fylde’s Mill Farm Sports Village. This represents the final phase of the large project which began work 8 years ago, and to assist with funding, the club is also seeking permission to build up to 100 houses on site too. So, keeping tabs on progression here could well pay off for contractors and suppliers alike.
So although we’re still years off seeing these developments in all of their glory, there’s definitely more to this borough than sand and sea! Especially in terms of what it has to offer the community, visitors and the many businesses that will be chosen to help bring these new and exciting visions to life.
