Top UK developer predicts good times ahead for North-East economy

The Chief executive of one of the UK’s top property developers believes that the North-East economy is well-placed to stay strong in the face of dire forecasts for the rest of the country.

Speaking in the run-up to the North-East Development Conference, Peter Connolly, the Chief Executive of North East-based Igloo Regeneration says that cities in our area have prepared well for economic adversity.

‘Over the next few years, regeneration and property development in the UK will only flourish in city centres that have partnerships and arrangements in place with local authorities’ said Mr Connolly, who is leading over £1 billion of sustainable urban development and investment across the UK,

“It’s those cities that work closely with these authorities and the private investment community to deliver regeneration schemes in true partnerships that will succeed”.

“I think the north-east has particularly led the country in doing those things over the past few years and so I’m confident that the economy in the north-east will remain robust”.

Connolly, who will be at the conference to network with local contractors and suppliers, says all the signs are there that the North-East will grow stronger while other UK cities may not.

“There’s a lot of high growth businesses in the North East and I think that providing the right kind of housing and work-space that we, and other investors, are intent on creating means there’s a lot of opportunity for people in our patch”.

A key speaker at the ‘Built Environment Networking’ conference that will take place on the 1st March at the Newcastle Civic Centre, Connolly says he will be speaking about many forthcoming projects that back-up his positive outlook for the area…

“I’m going to demonstrate why we should be positive – I’ll be discussing exciting projects including the £450m Stephenson Works scheme in Newcastle which includes 120 apartments, 200 square feet of office space, 10,000 square feet of shops and cafes and a major refurbishment of heritage buildings nearby”.

‘We are also delivering 1000 new homes, one million square feet of new offices and nature focused open spaces for citizens to enjoy”.

“Now that the government seems to be confident with delivering the levelling up agenda, I think there are good times ahead once again”.
