‘A landmark moment’…
That’s how Mark Chivers, Director General for Government Property from the cabinet office has described the government’s new Facilities Management Strategy.
In a piece written for ‘facilitate’ to launch the plan, Mr Chivers says that recent world-wide events, such as the Covid-19 Lockdown emphasises how ‘excellent FM is a critical part of hundreds of lifesavings, vital public services remaining available to citizens.
Mr Chivers, who is a key-note speaker at the highly anticipated ‘Government Property Conference’ in January, says that FM in the UK is complex and that getting consistent, high-quality, optimised FM services in place is not easy.
‘Our estate is made up of hundreds of thousands of assets, from prisons and courts to schools and museums, hospitals and health surgeries, job centres, military bases, administrative offices, and many more, spread all around the UK and overseas.’
‘The vision, values, and goals the strategy commits to have been developed collaboratively. We’ve brought together expertise from thousands of experts across Government and the FM and property industries. The new strategy is unequivocal that putting customers first and improving the condition and quality of the property we deliver services from, are the most important areas of focus.’
Chivers, who leads on major change programmes that supports the delivery of better and more integrated public services, overseeing – among others – the Places for Growth programme and supporting the Levelling Up agenda, goes on to describe the new strategy as ‘a hugely important tool in helping to achieve the commitments we set out earlier this year in the Government Property Strategy’.
Chivers outlined the direction of the plan as ‘a strategy built around three core missions: Transforming places and services; Creating a smaller, better, and greener estate; and delivering with professional excellence and insight.’
My Chivers makes an exclusive appearance at Government Property Conference on 11th of January at Kensington Town Hall.
