Boxpark to develop site in Liverpool in 2023

Boxpark have announced they heading to Liverpool in 2023 – the first BOXPARK-branded location outside of London.

Their property team have just agreed a 15-year lease with the iconic Cains Brewery Village for The Canning Hall site in the south of Liverpool city, which sits within the Baltic Triangle district.

Built in the 1980’s, the tall portal frame warehouse building will be transformed into a stunning food and entertainment destination, featuring a large internal space with units set over the ground floor, a small internal mezzanine, and an external terrace.

Spanning 15,806 sq.ft and holding 400 internal covers plus 200 external covers, the proposals for BOXPARK Liverpool will include around 10 kitchen units, three internal bars with additional external bars. In addition, there will be a 5,430 sq.ft external terrace to offer al fresco dining and intimate events.

Formerly an old industrial zone, the area has established itself as a large and growing cluster of creative industries, offices, restaurants, bars and leisure units since the mid 2000’s.

Set to open in late 2023, BOXPARK Liverpool will be the first of its kind outside of London with three sites in Shoreditch, Croydon and Wembley. The new scheme is set to deliver over 150 jobs whereby the Boxpark team will work closely with the Liverpool City Council to promote local supply chain routes and recruitment.

Boxpark is a food and retail park made out of refitted shipping containers in Britain. It was founded by Roger Wade, who described it as the “world’s first pop-up mall”. The first Boxpark was launched in Shoreditch in 2011, another was built in Croydon next to East Croydon station in 2016, and a third opened in Wembley in late 2018. Other Boxparks are also planned for other cities and countries.

BOXPARK CEO Simon Champion, comments on the exciting news:

“We are thrilled to announce such a fantastic location for our next BOXPARK venture. Our team have searched extensively for sites in Liverpool since 2016, having considered multiple locations across the city. As a dynamic and fast-growing business, we hope BOXPARK will be an exciting addition to Liverpool’s buzzing food and drink scene, offering an all-day food and entertainment destination.”
